Laser treatments have been used in cosmetic dermatology for many years. The principle is that the energy from a carefully controlled laser can be used to stimulate the lower layers of skin to rejuvenate and renew. The fibroblasts within the dermis are encouraged to divide and to produce more collagen and the skin is revitalised from the inside.
Non-fractional lasers target the deeper layers of skin while leaving the surface layer undamaged; fractional lasers are more effective but cause the skin to redden and peel.
Fractional laser therapy
Fractional lasers are a technological step up from traditional fractional lasers, delivering laser light that is split into tiny fractions or dots, a bit like pixels on a computer screen.
If you have this type of treatment, the positive effects on the skin are comparable but the skin redness and peeling afterwards is much reduced. This means that you don’t have to have as much time off work after a treatment.
Fractional lasers at The Devonshire Clinic
Fractional laser therapy is available at our London, Harley Street clinic, to treat wrinkles, acne scars and unwanted skin pigmentation such as age/sun spots.
We will devise a treatment schedule specifically tailored to your needs. Deeper more extensive scarring will require more treatment sessions.
Typically, we offer three to five sessions spaced several weeks apart. You may experience some redness and mild swelling for a few days after each treatment, but your skin will not crack or peel.
Our Consultant Dermatologists also recommend a specific skincare routine for you to follow at home to ensure rapid healing and recovery and maximum results. The full extent of the improvements take several months but you should then notice your skin looks generally healthier, smoother and plumper, as well as a significant reduction in any scarring.
