At The Devonshire Clinic in Harley Street, London, we offer a range of dermal fillers to rejuvenate the skin, adding volume and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Dr Conal Perrett and his team of expert dermatologists find that dermal fillers are particularly useful for targeting the areas around the mouth and can be used to add volume and definition to the lips and chin.
All fillers work by boosting the amount of collagen produced by cells in the deeper layers of skin. Collagen is a natural protein that helps give the skin definition and structure, as well as the firmness we associate with a youthful look.
As we age, the amount of collagen in our skin reduces, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles that are particularly noticeable on the face. Cosmetic dermatologists use dermal fillers to increase the number of collagen molecules in key target areas, making the skin look firmer and smoother.
The normal ageing process can also cause a reduction in tissue volume in facial areas such as the cheek bones and lips. Fillers can also be used to add volume or contour to these areas, plumping and sculpting facial shape.
Hyaluronic acid fillers
If you have this type of dermal filler you will have an injection of hyaluronic acid directly into the skin around problem areas. A local anaesthetic cream or injection can be applied in advance to make the process more comfortable. The treated skin may appear reddened and swollen for an hour or two after your treatment, but this will quickly subside.
How long to the improvements last?
Dermal fillers require just one or two treatment sessions and the effects can last for between four and six months in between treatments. They have the added advantage of creating a significant and long lasting improvement, without the risks or permanent effects of plastic surgery.
